Do you want to sell advertising space on your website or blog to generate a passive income? If you have a website or blog that attracts a lot of traffic you have probably thought about selling advertising space as a potential revenue stream. The thought of locating advertisers and setting up a workable system to take payments, deliver ads and monitor performance may be some of the reasons why the idea has remained an idea.
Outsource it
I recently signed up to third party ad brokering service, Advertise Space, that takes away all of those headaches. Registration is simple. All you have to do is complete the registration form and wait for your application to be approved (this is done manually).
Once your application is approved you can set up your campaigns. You are in full control over pricing and if you would like to approve ads before they are published on your site, you can do that, otherwise you can set the ads to publish automatically.
At this time I have submitted two sites. I have chosen one to automatically accept any advertising and on the other I have requested that each advert be approved before publication. This has worked quite well and I have managed to make a few sales.
Don’t set your prices too high
The secret is to not price your blog/website out of the market. Ask for silly money and you will end up getting none, ask for too little and you will end up feeling used.
Before you set up your first campaign take a look around at some of the other sites that are using the service and make a note of their prices. See which of the sites compare closest to yours and use their prices as a guideline. You can change your prices at any time, so don’t be afraid of testing the water to see if there are any takers. If no one buys an ad from you after a week or so, consider lowering the price in $5 increments until you make a sale.
How to set up an advertising campaign
Setting up your campaigns is fairly easy. You choose the ad you would like to display on your site (options – 125 x 125, 260 x 125 and 88 x 31), give the campaign a title, a description, set the auto approve (or not) option and select a category for your site.
When you have completed those steps you add some javascript code to your site where you want the ads to appear and your campaign is placed into the Advertise Space market place. When you make a sale the ad(s) automatically appear on your pages using the code you deployed when you created your campaign.
The small print
Naturally, all of this doesn’t come free. Advertise Space take a cut of the income, but I prefer to give them a slice of the pie to manage the whole process than manage it myself.
Another nice bonus is the affiliate program. Each person who signs up is automatically added to it. If people sign up using your link and sell ads on their site, you earn 5% of their income for the first 12 months.

We are thinking of having a website for us. We all try to make it very attractive and productive as well as. Your instructions will be very effective for us.
How much is considered high traffic for Advertingspace? Buysellads requires 100k a month to join their program.
All sites are manually reviewed by AdvertiseSpace staff. I believe they are more interested in the quality of your site than the traffic it generates.
I looked at your site btw, nice idea.
Also took a look,
very original idea indeed.
p.s. Advertise space not such a bad idea either
Great read, here. The important thing, as you say, is not to set your prices too high or too low. For the lucky few in a position to actually make money off of advertising space on their blogs, it’s a great idea. Passive income generators. That’s what it’s all about.
