In case you hadn’t noticed, there is a Google PageRank update going on at the moment. This is when Google updates the visible PageRank indicator, the Google Toolbar, to anyone who cares to take a look at such things.
In real terms, Google is constantly updating the PageRank allocated to webpages (using in excess of 200 pointers to determine the score) on an almost daily basis, but we are just not privy to that kind of information.
Most experienced SEOers will tell you to ignore the visible PageRank of a page, and I would tell you to do the same, but it is a confidence booster if your blog or website has had an increase in PageRank. It might not mean much in terms of traffic and search rankings, but it does indicate a level of trust and authority implied by Google. And if you were starting to wonder if blogging or running a website is for you, it could give you the extra burst of energy required for you to continue.
The update has been ongoing for a few days now and I have seen some nice jumps on several of my sites, but I have also seen some drops (this is normal). I am waiting for the dust to settle before boasting about increases and wondering what I can do about decreases, as the PageRank I see today may not be the PageRank finally allocated by Google.
How have you got on during this update? Have you had an increase, decrease or stayed the same?
