Google Chrome is the name of the new open source browser released by Google today, Tuesday 2nd September. At least that is what the official Google blog says.
The new browser uses components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox. Google wants to enter the browser market because “we believe we can add value for users and, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web” and will follow the Google style of being “streamlined and simple”.
Google Chrome will initially be available in 100 countries for public beta testing on the Windows platform, whilst work on the Mac and Linux versions are still in development.
There is no download link available at this time (7.01am in the UK), but I must admit I am waiting with bated breath. Firefox has become a chore and IE is only used for sites that don’t work in Firefox and compatibility tests.
I can’t wait to see what Google has come up with.
